Dry Bones Denver

Scoured the Earth (poem)

Scoured the scorched earth to find you.
Malnourished and drugged out you were.
Simply non-existent.
Emotionally unavailable.
Physically unreliable.
Still…we must find you.
An important piece of the puzzle called life.

I lost you.
It’s always my fault
You argue.
It’s like you hate me all over again.
Your life is driving me insane.
Convalescent Christian.
Immovable resistance.

You lie.
Cheat.
Steal.
Beg.
You need forgiveness.
Parched heart.
Broken mind.
I could never hate you.

You walked away.
We’re still trying to find you.
Search and Rescue teams you can’t even see.
He will keep you.
You won’t even see it happen.
Back in the arms and safe again.
I know you’ll run away.
You know I’ll keep trying to love you.

The streets keep calling.
With its cold, uncaring wiles.
Pulls you back.
Oh the yearning.
A soul full of tears.
Keep crawling back.
Unrelenting.
Peace calls out.
Foreboding.
Forgiven.
At last.
